About The Event

When we joined the military, (LE/FS/EMS) we knew that we needed basic training in order to become a proficient warrior. No one ever seems to consider that we need some basic training to survive when we leave service.

The Warriors Path to Peace is  basic training developed to equip warriors to live at peace with the world. The skills taught in this program are derived from the theories of Dr. Aaron Beck, Dr. Albert Ellis, Dr. Martin Seligman, Dr. Karen Reivich, and others.

Each class will involve a lecture, practice exercise, group work, and possibly home-work. This work shop is not a fire and forget class. Our hope at Valhalla is that you will internalize what you learn and that it will be the beginning of a life-long, life-changing journey. The skills you learn during this course will help you both in your current situation and in the future, if you practice them.

The major goals of the program are to help the participants:

1. Develop Cultural Awareness about the Warrior Culture

2. Develop Self Awareness

3. Learn skills to recognize and develop healthy relationships

4. Recognize the importance of Spiritual Development

The workshop is segmented into four modules, each of corresponds to one of the major goals.

Module 1: “The Warrior’s Identity” will explore what it means to be a warrior and how becoming a warrior has changed you. Understanding that you have had cultural values conditioned into you is vital in understanding yourself and in developing both cultural and self-awareness.

Module 2: “The Warriors Mind”. In this module we will explore the cognitive process, examine our core beliefs, and evaluate how those beliefs effect our thoughts, emotions, and actions. Throughout the module we will learn and exercise techniques which will help us regulate and control our emotional responses.

Module 3: “The Warrior’s Heart”. This module will help us to evaluate relationships and learn how to effectively communicate with other (even when we are angry).

Module 4: All are welcome to attend module 4 but you should know that it is based on the Judeo-Christian principles. This module will explore the importance of accepting responsibility for the things we have done and just as importantly accepting forgiveness. We will begin to understand that although we have made some bad decisions in the past, we don’t have to be enslaved by those decisions in the future. If you come from a faith background other than Judeo-Christian you are encouraged to share your own perspectives.
